250. (Photograph by: Keiko Bakker- Kojima)
Tokyo Station, the busiest one of the dozens of stations in this mega city.
Keiko returned home last Sunday after a 2 weeks visit to Japan. She had to endure a typhoon and an earthquake. Fortunately she was in a reasonably safe place both times. This train is the model Nozomi (Wish) of the super fast Shinkansen (New Trunkline) It takes 2 hours 18 minutes for the 514 km. between Tokyo and Kyoto. It leaves every 10 minutes and it's always full.
For more information on the Shinkansen go to this site:

249. One of the most difficult things to show in a photograph is a gradient. In picture nr. 248 I did that with the help of the houses in the foreground, they are horizontal. The road with a gradient of 33% I mentioned in picture nr. 248 is not far from the place where I took today's picture. The roads in this area are so narrow that special passing places have been constructed. You just wait there when you see somebody coming. Every driver always waves in appreciation for the trouble taken.

248. The fishing village of Pennan. The light brown stripe above the roofs shows the gradient of the only access road to the village, just under 30%. In the Lake District in England there is a road with a 33% gradient. When the road is wet it's almost impossible to negotiate.

247. Without the red accents this picture would be a lot less interesting. Red and green are complementary colours, they enhance each other.

236. Walls like this can be found everywhere in Great Britain and Ireland. Sometimes they are centuries old. Almost always built without cement, so-called dry-walls. Repairing walls like this is a real craft.
